Tailor-made tours
We are offering trips or single days out to see birds, butterflies and dragonflies throughout the British Isles and, with our service, flexibility is the key word.
Where birds are concerned trips can be pre-booked without problem as they are not dependant on good weather. However, if you find unexpectedly that you have a day or two free and would like to do some birdwatching outside your usual area with experienced guidance you can contact us at very short notice (though a day would be ideal) and we will do our best to help. We can accommodate all levels of expertise and are equally as happy hosting a trip for beginners or helping the more experienced birder to find that elusive single species. Adrian will be leading most of the excursions. He has a broad knowledge of birdwatching throughout the British Isles and specializes in Norfolk and the Scottish Highlands. He is also extremely tenacious when it comes to finding rarities (see his book Arrivals and Rivals: a Birding Oddity. Brambleby Books, Harpenden).

Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk Home to such specialities as the Swallowtail butterfly and the Norfolk Hawker dragonfly. Many other dragonflies are abundant at this site. The Marsh Harrier is also common here. |
Hordle Cliffs, Hampshire The only mainland site where one can reliably see the Glanville Fritillary butterfly. From here trips can be organized to its only remaining British strongholds in the Isle of Wight where the species is abundant.if you know where to go. |
Insects such as butterflies and dragonflies pose a somewhat different problem. Their activity is weather-dependant. There is nothing more dis-heartening than pre-booking a butterfly-watching trip only to be greeted by cloud or rain - during the research for his forthcoming book British and Irish Butterflies: the Complete Field, Identification and Site Guide (Brambleby Books, Harpenden) Adrian learned this to his cost at a very early stage. However, help is at hand. All you need to do is pick your 'target' area (or species), keep an eye on the local weather forecast, and then contact us. Adrian is able to move at very short notice and his deep knowledge of butterflies will be a great help. He's not bad on dragonflies, either! Moth-hunting trips can also be arranged but these may need a little more planning and direct discussion with Adrian.
How it works
For his tours Adrian has divided the year into fortnightly blocks (see the calendar). For each of these periods trips are being designed to sites throughout the British Isles. Simply look up the fortnight during which you have time available click on the appropriate week number (left hand column), and see what's on offer. If something takes your fancy simply give us a call. Advanced bookings are, of course, desirable but remember - flexibility is the name of our game.
The trips are currently being designed and we hope to have the complete itinerary available to coincide with the start of the spring bird migration and the opening of the new butterfly season. We are aiming for mid-April. Keep a close watch on the Enterprise io website for further news.

The Burren, Co. Clare Ireland (Burren) This place has to be seen to be believed. It is like a different world. The landscape, butterflies, orchids, hospitality and night-life are truly something to behold. You will come home with many happy memories. There are many endemic subspecies of butterfly found here. The live Irish folk music is fantastic. |
The Scottish Highlands (Creag Meagaidh) Our most special birds live here. Capercaille, Crested Tit, Ptarmigan, Black Grouse -.the list goes on and on. What about the butterflies? Chequered Skipper, Scotch Argus, Large Heath. This place is very special. The scenery's not bad, either! |
